The following are a series of podcasts based on the seminal work on the subject by Ishtiaq Hussain Qureshi. His book went in to more than 30 editions, and provides a unique Muslim perspective of the Muslim communities and their rulers in the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent during the earliest days right up to 1947. These podcasts are proposed to be made into a pictorial documentary in proper time.

Pafrt-1 speaks, briefly, about the entry of Islam in the subcontinent; but it mainly focuses on the factors that led to the decline of Muslim power in India.

Part-2 of the podcast is based on the chapter titled, A Diagnosis of the Disease from Ishtiaq Hussain Qureshi’s remarkable book, “The Muslim Community of the Indo-Pakistan Subcontinent (610-1947), A Brief Historical Analysis”. The earlier podcast dealt with the Introduction of Islam in the subcontinent, the growth of Muslim political power and the eventual decline of Muslims rule. This chapter deals with the role played by Shah Waliullah in trying to stem the decline, and his sterling contributions in reawakening the moral fabric of society. His translation of the Quran in Persian and his efforts at uniting the different sects of Muslims has made his name immortal in the annals of Islamic history.

The following is Part-3 of the series of podcasts dealing with the Muslim Community of the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent from the year 610-1947. In the previous part we had heard about the role played by Shah Waliullah Dehlavi, a great scholar and social reformer of the eighteenth century, in trying to stem the political decline of the Muslims in the subcontinent, especially his role in ensuring the victory of Muslim arms in the Third Battle of Panipat fought in 1761. We had also highlighted his translation of the meanings of the Quran into Persian, despite stiff opposition, aimed at trying to bring Muslims of various denominations closer to the Quran on which none disagreed. This episode focuses on the broad-minded approach of Shah Waliullah Dehlavi and his moderation in religious matters. We also learn about his thoughts concerning the need for economic upliftment of society.

This segment traces the lives and times of the reformers and warriors who came after Shah Wali’ullah.
