How the Indian Khilafat Movement Laid the Foundation for India’s Independence Movement

When the Indian Muslims stood up for the rights of Turkey after the Allied forces had caused them humiliation, their initiative, called the Khilafat Movement, incidentally, led to the growth of consciousness and courage among the Indian Hindus to rise up for their freedom from the British. In the words of Maulana Shaukat Ali, “We created political consciousness among the Hindus; we built up Gandhi….[and we] placed the Congress on the path to independence”.
